Dental Crowns: What They Are and Which One Might Be Right for You

A dental crown is simply a protective cap that covers a damaged or weakened tooth.
It restores the tooth’s shape, strength, and appearance so you can smile, eat, and speak comfortably again.

When Do You Need a Crown?

Crowns are commonly recommended when a tooth:

  • Has a large cavity that can’t be filled

  • Is cracked, broken, or severely worn down

  • Has had a root canal

  • Needs a cosmetic improvement (like reshaping or color correction)

  • Is part of a dental bridge or implant

If a tooth is still worth saving but too weak to stand on its own, a crown gives it a second chance.

The Types of Crowns We Offer

Not all crowns are the same. At A. DENT, we offer several options depending on your needs, budget, and preference for appearance or strength.

Here’s a quick guide:
1. Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal (PFM) Crown

  • This crown has a metal base with a porcelain coating. It’s strong and long-lasting, with a natural appearance.

    • Best for: Back teeth (molars) that need strength but still show when you smile.

    • Pros: Durable, natural-looking, more affordable than all-porcelain options.

2. Tilite Crown

  • Made with a titanium-based alloy under porcelain, Tilite crowns are lightweight, strong, and biocompatible, meaning they’re kind to your body.

    • Best for: Patients who want strength and are concerned about metal sensitivity.

    • Pros: Stronger than standard PFM and more resistant to corrosion

3. E-max Crown

  • These crowns are made entirely of lithium disilicate glass-ceramic. In simpler terms: they’re both beautiful and strong!

    • Best for: Front teeth or visible areas where appearance really matters.

    • Pros: Highly aesthetic, no metal, blends perfectly with natural teeth.

4. Zirconia Crown

  • Zirconia crowns are made from a super-strong ceramic material. They’re known for their toughness and durability.

    • Best for: Molars, patients who grind their teeth, or visible areas where appearance really matters.

    • Pros: Extremely strong, metal-free, good for patients with allergies or sensitivities.
